Today I go on the news again.
My firm stand on public breastfeeding has lead me to the news twice now. Breastfeeding in my mind is the normal and natural way to feed your babies. I breastfed my first son Hayden for 10 months until he self weaned, and I plan on doing the same for Connor.
The wonderful things about breastfeeding.
Breastfeeding reduces colds, virus's, and infections. If the baby happens to pick up something, the severity will be lessened, This is due to the antibodies in the mothers milk.
Unlike when you Formula feed, Breastmilk is easily digested. If your child has any problems with your milk it's easy to change your diet to pinpoint the child's problem. (Dairy/ Wheat/ Caffeine, Are a few things that may affect your breast milk)
Breastfed babies are proven to have less learning difficulties, Breast milk helps babies brain grow and develop.
Breast fed babies have less trips to the hospital.
There are many Pro's in breastfeeding that affect mommy as well.
-Breastfeeding allows mommy to eat more, and burn calories faster, Thus allowing the mother to lose the baby weight faster.
Breast milk is always available, it's always warm, and it's is always ready for baby... No Putting together bottles at 2 am
Breastmilk is easier to digest allowing less spit up and babies poop doesn't stink as much as a formula fed baby.
The Mother can sleep during Night time feedings.
Breast Milk may be pumped and given to baby by dad or another family member by bottle.
There are so many more Pro's, As I sit here typing I look at my Son Connor, 5 Moths old in his bouncer... He is Chubby and Tall... All he has ever had is breast milk.
My Son Is healthy and strong.
My almost two year old Hayden is also A Strong Child. He walked at a little over 9 months, Although he was crawling at five months, and standing alone by 8 months.
I took a quick break to read a new found favorite blog of mine ...
The Leaky Boob ... or The Leaky B@@B on Facebook... I guess the word Boob is not allowed on facebook
She came up with 9 very unexpected Benefits of Breastfeeding. My favorite has to be what she calls the NAK (Nursing at the Keyboard) And I have to admit that I have Taken advantage of feeding time more than once to check Facebook or my e-mail, Or do Photography Edits. And Now that Connor is getting stronger and he can sit by himself for a short period of time it is getting easier.
FACEBOOK AND BOOBS !!!
Now I have to admit, When I opened my Facebook Page On Monday, and had a message that said
"
You uploaded a photo that violates our Terms of Use and this photo has been removed. Facebook does not allow photos that attack an individual or group, or that contain nudity, drug use, violence or other violations of the Terms of Use. These policies are designed to ensure Facebook remains a safe, secure and trusted environment for all users, including the many children who use the site."
I was Fuming Mad, They had removed breastfeeding Pictures Of me and My son,
So I went to the help center and Read
What types of content are not allowed on Facebook?Content (i.e., photos, groups, shares, etc.) is removed from Facebook...
Content (i.e., photos, groups, shares, etc.) is removed from Facebook when it violates Facebook's
Statement of Rights and Responsibilities.
Types of content that are prohibited from Facebook include, but are not restricted to the following:
- No nudity or other sexually explicit content
- No content that contains hate speech or directly attacks an individual or group
- No content that contains self harm or excessive violence
- No content that contains illegal drug use
First of All there was NO NUDITY ... And It is not a sexual act to feed your child... IT is not hate or self harm or violent nor did it contain drug use... It was just a baby attached to a breast enjoying a meal. Why not remove pictures of babies drinking from a bottle it is basically the same thing, except that Breastfeeding is healthier and more natural.
No. A Facebook administrator looks into each report thoroughly in order to decide the appropriate course of action. If no violation of our Statement of Rights and Responsibilities has occurred, then no action will be taken. If a violation has occurred, then you may receive a warning or become disabled, depending on the severity of the violation.
This made me feel worse, Someone who is on my Friends list reported my picture, As an offending picture... Everyone who knows me knows how 100% I am for Breastfeeding.
So I made this Proposal...
Everyone who is pro breastfeeding and happens to have a breastfeeding picture available POST IT, Make it your Profile Picture.
So I have to admit... Now I am not upset with Facebook anymore.... They have merely added Fuel to a Fire of Many mothers who are Pro Breast Feeding... Thus allowing us to get the message out. As one of the Ladies posted so eloquently
If you are a breastfeeding mother, and are not ashamed to show it, please put a breastfeeding photo as your profile pic, to support the natural and normal way to feed your children. Support the fact that breastfeeding is not a form of pornographic nudity, it is not distasteful nor is it shameful.
*To equate breastfeeding photos to exp...licit nudity is ridiculous*
This is now Posted as a status update on many womens walls...
